About the Cyborg Philosopher

“Cyborg Philosopher” is the alias for Multimedia Professional Laurence Jonathan Kerr.  A perfect blend of calculation and meditation, the line that separates the “cyborg” and the “philosopher” has long faded to abstraction.  To learn the logic behind the alias is to learn the character of Laurence Kerr himself. 

To begin to dissect the alias, a definition of the words that comprise it is required.  The word “philosophy” has many definitions, not the least of which being a personal set of beliefs that define actions and goals, or the doctrine of questioning indoctrinated beliefs.  In fact, it is not a stretch to say that one may have the personal philosophy that all indoctrinated beliefs must be challenged.  This belief states that nothing is ever at a state of perfection, and thus can always be improved.  For it is often said, and never enough emphasized, that learning is a life-long goal, not a simple tutorial.  Many a civilization has been lost to time, as its society stagnated after fixating on a false ideal of “perfection.”  Even the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, acclaimed for his wisdom, said that no community can last forever without change.

The word “cyborg,” to extrapolate, is attributed to a hybrid creature: part machine and part human. Machines are creatures of logic, only evaluating things that can be measured and physically manipulated. Machines are predictable but intellectual. Humans are creatures of emotion, who are driven by imagination and ambition. They are renowned for their spontaneity and innovation.  A “cyborg,” therefore, would be a perfect blending of these two seeming opposites – imagination and ambition merged with logic and efficiency, each half modifying and balancing the other for a better whole.

It is this mixture that defines Laurence Jonathan Kerr – an individual with a flair for creativity and art, but tempered by a firm grasp on reality, always striving to be as efficient and clear as possible while maintaining an ongoing effort of self-improvement.  And it is also this mixture that makes the Cyborg Philosopher the perfect worker – a professional with realistic, but reaching goals to create superior products and services.
